Love....
Is that what you call it when
you have sleepless eyes and restless mind?
When all your thoughts keep falling off the same cliff,
And somehow your soul seems to be lost?
Each of your sighs take you further away
Leaving all the paths of your life in tangles.
You sense a mystery, feel it weighing you down
Yet, dare not push it away, nor to unravel it.
When the night closes on your eyes
the same vision engulfs you as the night before.
You snuggle onto it for warmth and loving caresses
but,then,you turn into stone outside, cold inside.
Your hopes are unspoken half-promises;
A bleak death to your soul your fear.
In the no man's land between the peak and the abyss,
You dream your dream of eternal sunshine.
Author's note: You might be wondering how 'Love' comes into picture here at all. But then, if you are an Indian, born and grown in a conservative family( like the majority of India), you might be familiar with the scenario: Marriage, love, duty and honour; society, family,future and hopes; All mixed and given different brand-new identities, as it suits the situation and conforming to the perceived majority conscience. Unspoken half-promises are all what most of us dare to choose. In marriage. And in many more things.
